Maryland, Northwestern and Penn State Receive Field Hockey Honors

ROSEMONT, lll. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Field Hockey Offensive Player, Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week Award winners for matches played Oct. 20-22.

Offensive Player of the Week

Sophia Gladieux, Penn State

Sr. – F – Boyertown, Pa. – Oley Valley

• Scored both goals in Penn State’s 2-1 come-from-behind win over No. 5 Iowa on Sunday
• Finished with 11 total shots (including seven on goal) on the weekend
• Leads the Big Ten with seven goals and 15 points in conference play
• The 2022 Big Ten Player of the Year receives her fifth career offensive weekly award
• Last Penn State Offensive Player of the Week: Anna Simon (Oct. 31, 2022)  

Defensive Player of the Week

Annabel Skubisz, Northwestern

Gr. – GK – Houston, Texas — The Kinkaid School

• Recorded her sixth-straight shutout with eight saves against No. 16 Penn State on Oct. 20
• Extended shutout streak to 366:37 at Rutgers before allowing first goal since Sept. 22
• Turned away three shootout attempts in a 2-1 win over Rutgers on Sunday as Northwestern claimed a share of the Big Ten Championship
• Earns fifth career defensive award and third of the season
• Last Northwestern Defensive Player of the Week: Maja Zivojnovic (Sept. 25, 2023)  

Freshman of the Week

Alyssa Klebasko, Maryland

Fr. – GK – Odenton, Md. – Garrison Forest

• Picked up a pair of wins on the weekend to improve to 10-0 as a starter this season.
• Made four saves against No. 5 Iowa and seven stops against Indiana
• Sports top save percentage (.881) and second-lowest goals-against average (0.83) in conference action
• Garners Big Ten freshman honor for the second straight week
