Johns Hopkins, Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State Claim Weekly Men’s Lacrosse Accolades

Blue Jays’ Collison, Wolverines’ Shannehan, Buckeyes’ Brown, and Nittany Lions Gills take home weekly awards

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Men’s Lacrosse Awards for 
the week of Jan. 27th – Feb 3rd, 2026.  

Offensive Players of the Week 
Matt Collison, Johns Hopkins 
Senior – Midfield – Scarborough, Ontario – Major: Political Science 

  • Paced Johns Hopkins to a 17-2 season-opening win against Robert Morris  
  • Scored five goals on just seven shots 
  • Also added an assist to total six points on the day 
  • Collison is the first Blue Jay midfielder with a five-goal game since 2008 
  • Last Johns Hopkins Offensive Player of the Week Award: Russell Melendez (Feb. 25, 2025) 

Defensive Player of the Week 
Cullen Brown, Ohio State 
Senior – Defense – Silver Spring, Md. – Major: Finance

  • Led the team with three caused turnovers in Ohio State’s 19-3 win over Detroit Mercy 
  • Also corralled three groundballs on the day 
  • The Buckeyes caused 11 of Detroit Mercy’s 18 turnovers 
  • Last Ohio State Defensive Player of the Week Award: Bobby Van Buren (Feb. 18, 2025) 

Specialist of the Week 
Reid Gills, Penn State 
Sophomore – Face off – Annapolis, Md. – Major: Sport Industry 

  • In Penn State’s 18-14 win over Colgate, Gills dominated the face-off 
  • Went 15-19 on the X, picked up seven groundballs and dished an assist 
  • Ranked fourth nationally in faceoff percentage this weekend (.789) all while splitting time with teammate Colby Baldwin 
  • Last Penn State Specialist of the Week Award: Jack Fracyon (April 22, 2025) 

Freshman of the Week 
Luke Shannehan, Michigan 
Freshman – Attack – Fairfield, Conn. – Major: School of Literature, Science and Art 

  • Recorded a team-best seven points in his first collegiate outing against Mercyhurst 
  • Helped Michigan to a program-record 24 goals 
  • Scored five goals and had two assists for the Wolverines 
  • Notched six of his seven points in the first half of action and added one ground ball to his stat line 
  • Last Michigan Freshman of the Week Award: Ryan Cohen (April 26, 2022)
