 </a> urging the NCAA to continue pushing for limitations or the outright elimination of proposition (“prop”) betting involving individual student-athletes competing in college athletics. The letter reinforces the Big Ten Conference’s unwavering commitment to protecting the well-being and safety of student-athletes across all 18 Big Ten campuses, and the integrity of intercollegiate athletics.“The Big Ten Conference is proud to support our student-athletes in calling for the restriction or elimination of individual proposition wagers on college athletics,” said Big Ten Conference Commissioner Tony Petitti. Limiting or eliminating prop betting on college athletics would be a meaningful step toward reducing harassment, protecting mental well-being, and preserving the integrity of college competition.”The Big Ten Conference SAIC was founded in 1994. SAIC members take an active role in monthly meetings discussing the issues most important to Big Ten Conference student-athletes and highlighting ongoing initiatives on their respective campuses. SAIC executive leadership members also represent Big Ten student-athletes in front of the Conference’s Joint Group council and represent the Big Ten Conference on the NCAA’s Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, where they review NCAA activities, proposed legislation and offer feedback on behalf of the Big Ten’s student-athletes.  Student-athletes are nominated by their institution and appointed by the Conference’s Joint Group Executive Committee to serve on the commission for one academic year. The Big Ten Conference SAIC members signing the letter include:<ul class="list-bullet"><li

<div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, Ill. –  The Maryland Terrapins have been named as the favorite to win the 2026 Big Ten Men’s Lacrosse regular season title, according to the preseason coaches' poll released on Thursday. Ranked first overall in the <a href="https://www.usalacrosse.com/magazine/college/men/maryland-ranked-no-1-usa-lacrosse-division-i-mens-preseason-top-20">

 </a>, the Terrapins received four first place votes to take the top Conference spot. Last season, Maryland finished as NCAA runners up, marking the second year in a row it has done so.  Penn State was picked second ahead of the defending Big Ten tournament and regular season champions Ohio State, followed by Johns Hopkins, Michigan and Rutgers to round out the poll. The Big Ten also released a Players to Watch List, comprised of three players from each of its six programs, and ten players on the list earned 2025 post-season honors, including last years’ Defensive Player of the Year Will Schaller and Specialist of the Year Caleb Fyock. Hunter Aquino also earned Freshman of the Year honors for Penn State. The NCAA lacrosse season begins on Saturday, Jan. 31 with Big Ten play commencing March 21. The Big Ten Tournament opens with quarterfinal matches on Saturday, April 25 on campus before the remaining schools travel to Piscataway, N.J. for the semifinals on April 30 and the championship on May 2.  Each of the five other Big Ten teams are also ranked in the USA Lacrosse preseason poll: Penn State (No. 9), Ohio State (No. 11), Rutgers (No. 15), Johns Hopkins (No. 17), and Michigan (No. 20).  Big Ten Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Poll <ol style="text-align: left;" class="list-number"><li

 Big Ten Conference Announces Preseason Men’s Lacrosse Honors 

<div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Network (BTN) will air 13 Big Ten men’s lacrosse games during the 2026 season, the network recently announced. The schedule will include 10 regular season games, along with the semifinals and championship games of the 2026 Big Ten Men’s Lacrosse Tournament.Television coverage begins Saturday, March 21 when Penn State hosts Maryland in the first weekend of conference action.   Ohio State, Maryland and Rutgers each lead the Conference with four games that will be broadcast and all six Big Ten schools will be featured on BTN this season. Additional games will be streamed on <a href="https://www.bigtenplus.com/en-int/page/home" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">
 B1G+

<div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, Ill. – Maryland men’s lacrosse student-athlete Bryce Ford was named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Men's At-Large Second Team on Tuesday.The graduate played a crucial part in Maryland's run to the NCAA tournament finals in May, scoring at least one goal in every tournament game.On the season, he tallied 23 goals, 10 assists, 12 ground balls and two caused turnovers. Maryland's Ford Named to CSC Academic All-America At-Large Second Team

<div class="payload-richtext">WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 6, 2025 – Today marks a historic milestone for college athletics in the United States. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California has granted final approval to a settlement in the House v. NCAA (“House”) litigation. This landmark settlement – agreed to by plaintiffs representing nearly 400,000 current and former student-athletes and the NCAA, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), Big Ten Conference, Big 12 Conference, Pac-12 Conference and Southeastern Conference (SEC) – will reshape the landscape of college sports, paving the way for a model that prioritizes fairness, stability, integrity and opportunity for student-athletes and institutions.Overseeing this model will be the newly established <a href="https://www.collegesportscommission.org/">
 College Sports Commission
 </a> – an independent body that will be responsible for implementing the settlement terms governing revenue sharing, student-athlete Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) deals and roster limits. The Commission will investigate any potential violations of these rules, make determinations regarding potential rules violations and penalties, provide notice and opportunity to be heard, participate in the arbitration process and ultimately administer penalties for violations of these rules. The Commission’s leadership team will be announced in the near future.Under the new system, student-athletes will have more opportunities to financially benefit during their participation in intercollegiate athletics than ever before. Institutions are now able to share revenue directly with student-athletes, in addition to providing existing benefits such as athletic scholarships, access to world-class training facilities, academic counseling, medical care, post-eligibility medical coverage, mental health resources, nutritional guidance and life skills development.Beginning July 1, 2025, each year, participating schools can distribute up to 22% of the average revenue among schools in the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC from media rights, ticket sales, and sponsorships – known as the revenue sharing cap. The cap is estimated at $20.5 million per school for the 2025-26 academic year, pending final confirmation. To ensure revenue sharing with student-athletes is appropriately managed and reported to the Court for compliance, athletics departments will use the new College Athlete Payment System (CAPS) platform developed by LBi Software.Student-athletes will also be able to continue receiving compensation from third-parties other than their institutions for the use of their NIL, so long as their NIL deals are made with the purpose of using their NIL for a valid business purpose and do not exceed a reasonable range of compensation. On behalf of the College Sports Commission, Deloitte* has built and will maintain a new technology platform called NIL Go in which student-athletes will be required to report their NIL deals to confirm they are in compliance with the rules.  >Payor association – The relationship between the payor and the student-athlete’s school.</li><li

 >Valid business purpose – Whether the payor is seeking the use of the student-athlete’s NIL for a valid business purpose, meaning to sell a good or service to the public for profit.</li><li

 >Range of compensation – Whether the compensation paid to the student-athlete is commensurate with compensation paid to similarly situated individuals.</li></ul>Finally, for participating schools, NCAA scholarship limits have been removed and roster limits have been established for each sport, allowing for a significant increase in scholarship opportunities for student-athletes. Under this new model, schools will have the option to offer partial or full scholarships to every student-athlete on a team’s roster, as long as the total number of student-athletes stays within the sport’s specific roster limit. Efforts have also been made to ensure current and immediately incoming student-athletes are not adversely impacted by the establishing of roster limits.  </a>   FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – In its 18th NCAA Championship appearance, No. 2 Maryland was unable to win its fifth NCAA title after a hard-fought 13-10 loss versus No. 1 Cornell.     After a back-and-forth first half, the Terrapins went to the locker room down 6-5, only giving up one goal to Cornell’s Tewaaraton front-runner CJ Kirst. However, in the second half, Kirst figured out the Terrapins defense and scored three goals to put the Big Red up 9-6 with 9:23 remaining in the fourth. Maryland clawed back after Elijah Stobaugh scored his 10th goal of the season to make the game 10-9, but Kirst added his fifth and sixth goals of the day to help put Cornell up 13-10 with 0:50 remaining to close out the game.     Logan McNaney capped off a terrific season with 11 saves, and Eric Spanos led all Maryland players with two goals and two assists on the day.     Regardless of the result, the Terrapins had an accomplished season, beating multiple top teams like Notre Dame, Penn State, Ohio State, Princeton and Syracuse twice, made the finals in the Big Ten and NCAA tournaments, and saw defenseman Will Schaller earn Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year honors.     In its 100th season, Maryland cemented its place as one of the premier lacrosse programs in the NCAA. The Terrapins have appeared in the NCAA tournament 47 times, advanced to the finals 18 times, and won four NCAA championships. With its win over Syracuse on Saturday, the Terrapins also joined Johns Hopkins and Syracuse as one of three programs to have 900 total wins. The Terrapins, however, have the strongest winning percentage (.754) of any team in the country.   Four Terrapins players also made the NCAA All-Tournament Team.
