Maryland, Ohio State, and Rutgers Win Weekly Men’s Lacrosse Awards

Terps’ Laake and Ruppel join Buckeyes’ Mayfield and Scarlet Knights’ Kurdyla with weekly honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Men’s Lacrosse Awards for 
the week of March 10th- 17th, 2026.  

Offensive Players of the Week 
Colin Kurdyla, Rutgers 
Junior – Attack – Bridgewater, N.J. – Major: Supply Chain Management  

  • Had 20 points combined in a two-game week with wins over St. John’s and Bellarmine 
  • Had four goals and seven assists against St. John’s, which is the most points for a Rutgers player since 1993 
  • Recorded four goals and five assists against Bellarmine 
  • Also was named National Player of the Week by both USA Lacrosse and The Lacrosse Network 
  • Last Rutgers Offensive Player of the Week Award: Shane Knobloch (Feb. 2, 2023) 

 

Defensive Player of the Week 
Peter Laake, Maryland 
Sophomore – Defense – Glenwood, Md. – Major: Business Management  

  • Led the Terps’ defense in their 13-12 triple-overtime victory 
  • Recorded two caused turnovers and four ground balls in an effort that helped lift the Terps to the win 
  • Last Maryland Defensive Player of the Week award: Jack McDonald (April 22, 2025) 

 

Specialist of the Week 
Brian Ruppel, Maryland
Senior – Goalie – Annapolis, Md. – Major: Communications 

  • Recorded a season-high 14 saves in the Terps’ 13-12 triple-overtime victory over Virginia 
  • Caused a turnover in the first overtime to give Maryland possession 
  • Made two key saves, back-to-back, in the third overtime to regain possession, which led to the game-winning goal 
  • Also corralled three ground balls 
  • Last Maryland Specialist of the Week award: Logan McNaney (April 15, 2025) 

 

Freshman of the Week 
Matthew Mayfield, Ohio State 
Freshman – Face Off – Katonah, N.Y. – Major: Finance 

  • Finished 9-for-12 from the faceoff X in Thursday’s 6-4 win over No. 12 Denver 
  • Picked up a career-high eight ground balls on the day 
  • Tallied his first career point with an assist on the third goal of the day 
  • Last Ohio State Freshman of the Week Award: Liam White (March 18, 2025)
