Maryland Clinches Share of Big Ten Men’s Lacrosse Championship

Terrapins’ claim share of 7th Big Ten regular season title

Rosemont, Ill. – Maryland secured at least a share of the 2026 Big Ten men's lacrosse championship with Saturday’s 12-2 win over No. 19 Rutgers. The victory improved the No. 9-ranked Terrapins to 3-1 in conference play with one game remaining. This marks Maryland's seventh title and first since 2022.

The Terps went down 1-0 early, but a 6-0 second quarter run put the game out of reach at halftime. Eric Spanos scored two of the goals in that stretch and finished with three goals and two assists on the evening.

Riley Reese led a lockdown Maryland defense, recording five caused turnovers, and two groundballs. The Terps also held the Scarlet Knights to their lowest goal total this year.

Maryland also controlled the faceoff X throughout the game, going 12-18. Specialist Henry Dodge played a key part in the Terps' success, as he went 8-10 and corralled seven groundballs.

Maryland can clinch the 2026 title outright next Saturday with a win at rival Johns Hopkins, with an opening faceoff scheduled for 2 p.m. ET in Baltimore, Md.

The  2026 Big Ten Men’s Lacrosse Tournament  will take place between April 25-May 2 at campus host sites and SHI Stadium in Piscataway, N.J.
