Maryland, Ohio State and Penn State Score Weekly Men’s Lacrosse Awards

McNaney, Spanos, Van Buren, Marinier and Aquino earn weekly honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Men’s Lacrosse Awards for the week of Feb. 11-18, 2025.  

Co-Offensive Players of the Week 
Eric Spanos, Maryland 
Senior – Attack – Pottstown, Pa. – Major: Communication 

  • Helped No. 6 Maryland beat No. 2 Syracuse 11-7
  • Tallied his second straight game with four points, this time two goals and two assists
  • In the last five minutes of the third quarter, he tallied an assist, an extra-man goal, and another goal to put Maryland up 8-5 after trailing 5-4
  • Spanos’ second Offensive Player of the Week Award. Last: Feb 11, 2025 

Alex Marinier, Ohio State 
Senior – Attack – Burlington, Ontario – Major: Finance 

  • Scored a hat trick in the win against Bellarmine and seven goals in the win over Air Force
  • Against the Falcons, Marinier tallied a hat trick in the first quarter alone
  • His seven goals were the most goals scored in a game by a Buckeye since the 2019 season
  • Marinier currently leads the team with 19 goals and points this season and the conference in points, goals, shots and power play goals Last Ohio State Offensive Player of the Week Award: Gannon Matthews (February 4, 2024) 

Defensive Player of the Week 
Bobby Van Buren, Ohio State 
Senior – Defense – Wingate, N.C. – Major: Sport Industry 

  • Combined for four ground balls and three caused turnovers in the team’s wins over Bellarmine and Air Force
  • The captain helped hold Bellarmine to just three goals while he was in the game
  • Earned his first career point with an assist in the win over Air Force
  • Also caused three turnovers in the win against Bellarmine
  • Last Ohio State Defensive Player of the Week Award: Cullen Brown (February 11, 2025) 

Specialist of the Week 
Logan McNaney, Maryland 
Graduate – Goalie – Corning, N.Y.  – Major: Applied Economics 

  • Made 12 saves to help the Terps in an 11-7 win over then-No. 2 Syracuse
  • Marked his third straight game with 12 saves and allowing seven goals or less
  • In the second half alone, McNaney made five saves and allowed just two goals
  • McNaney’s .643 save percentage is third best in the nation among teams who have played multiple games
  • Last Maryland Specialist of the Week Award: Logan McNaney (April 16, 2024) 

Freshman of the Week 
Hunter Aquino, Penn State 
Freshman – Midfield – Easton, Pa. – Major: Undecided 

  • Tallied his first career hat-trick and five-point game after a three goal and two assist outing against Princeton
  • Currently is second on Penn State in points with nine (six goals and three assists)
  • Also recorded a ground ball in the loss against Princeton
  • Last Penn State Freshman of the Week Award: Kyle Lehman (April 16, 2024)
