Johns Hopkins and Penn State Receive Weekly Lacrosse Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its men’s lacrosse player awards for the week of Feb. 5-11.


Offensive Player of the Week

Matt Traynor, Penn State
Jr. – M — Downingtown, Pa. — Malvern Prep
  • Scored a career-high six goals (on seven shots on goal) in No. 15 Penn State’s 18-10 victory over Villanova on Feb. 10
  • Registered the third six-point game of his career
  • Added nine total shots, caused three turnovers and collected two ground balls
  • The All-Big Ten Second Team selection earns his first Big Ten Offensive POW award
  • Last Penn State Offensive Player of the Week: Jack Traynor (April 18, 2023)
     
Defensive Player of the Week
Scott Smith, Johns Hopkins
Sr. – D — Berwyn, Pa. — Conestoga
  • Anchored a defense that held opponents to single-digit goals in a pair wins for No. 13 Johns Hopkins
  • Helped JHU limit Towson to five goals, the fewest goals the Blue Jays have allowed in a game since the 2018 season
  • In two games, Smith totaled 10 ground balls, forced three turnovers and netted a goal
  • Collects his third career defensive award, having previously won on March 15, 2022 and April 7, 2023
  • Last Johns Hopkins Defensive Player of the Week: Alex Mazzone (April 25, 2023)
     
Specialist of the Week
Logan Callahan, Johns Hopkins
Jr. – FO — Victor, N.Y. — Victor
  • Played a key role for Johns Hopkins in wins over Towson and Georgetown
  • Finished the week winning 65.1 percent of his faceoffs (28-for-43) and recovering 19 ground balls
  • Was clutch from the X against Georgetown, controlling 10-of-14 faceoffs in the second and third quarters during an 8-4 run by the Blue Jays
  • Receives this third career Big Ten award — was named a Specialist and Freshman winner on April 19, 2022
  • Last Johns Hopkins Specialist of the Week: Tim Marcille (March 14, 2023)

Freshman of the Week
Kyle Lehman, Penn State

Fr. – A — Ambler, Pa. — Wissahickon

  • Notched his second-straight hat trick in Penn State’s 18-10 win versus Villanova at Panzer Stadium
  • Scored three goals on five shots while collecting two ground balls and forcing a turnover
  • Shares goal-scoring honors among Big Ten freshman with six tallies on the season
  • Receives his first Big Ten weekly award
  • Last Penn State Freshman of the Week: Chase Mullins (April 11, 2023)
