Johns Hopkins and Michigan Honored with Lacrosse Awards

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its men’s lacrosse player awards for games played March 23-24.

Offensive Player of the Week

Jacob Angelus, Johns Hopkins

Gr. – A — Chantilly, Va. — Paul VI

  • Matched a career high for goals and points, factoring in 62 percent of No. 13 Johns Hopkins’ scoring in a 13-8 win over No. 17 Rutgers on Sunday

  • Compiled three goals and five assists, providing three points during JHU’s 5-1 run in the fourth quarter which put the game out of reach

  • Extended his multiple-points streak to nine consecutive games

  • Earns a Big Ten Offensive award for the third straight season, having previously been honored on March 7, 2023 and March 29, 2022

  • Last Johns Hopkins Offensive Player of the Week: Russell Melendez (March 28, 2023)

Defensive Player of the Week

Beau Pederson, Michigan

Gr. – M — Park City, Utah — Princeton

  • Helped No. 20 Michigan to a 12-11 come-from-behind win against No. 7 Maryland in the Big Ten opener for both teams Saturday in Ann Arbor

  • Anchored a defense that held Maryland to five goals in the second half

  • Forced two turnovers, collected three grounds balls and generated two points (goal, assist) against the Terrapins

  • The Princeton transfer receives his first Big Ten Defensive award

  • Last Michigan Defensive Player of the Week: Nick DeCaprio (April 16, 2019)

Specialist of the Week

Justin Wietfeldt, Michigan

Sr. – FO — New Canaan, Conn. — New Canaan

  • Controlled 62.5 percent (15-of-24) of his faceoffs in Michigan’s 12-11 win over Maryland on March 23

  • Had a stretch of six consecutive faceoff wins in the fourth quarter

  • Collected 10 ground balls, raising his season total to 84, tops among Big Ten players

  • The All-Big Ten First Team selection earns his first career Big Ten Specialist award

  • Last Michigan Specialist of the Week: Josh Wietfeldt (April 7, 2023)

Freshman of the Week

Quintan Kilrain, Johns Hopkins

Fr. – D — Purcellville, Va. — Lawrenceville

  • Earned his fifth start on close defense for Johns Hopkins in a 13-8 road win over Rutgers in the conference opener for both teams

  • Helped JHU hold Rutgers to four goals below its season scoring average

  • Gathered four ground balls for a defense that allowed just one goal in the fourth quarter

  • The long stick middie receives his first Big Ten Freshman honor
