Maryland, Michigan and Ohio State Collect Lacrosse Awards

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its men’s lacrosse player awards for the week of Feb. 13-17.

Offensive Player of the Week

Michael Boehm, Michigan

Sr. – A — Rocky River, Ohio — St. Ignatius
  • Amassed 14 points in Michigan’s sweep of Canisius and Hobart in Ann Arbor
  • Compiled seven goals on nine shots and added seven assists
  • Recorded a five-goal game as Michigan handed Canisius a 21-5 loss
  • Captures his third career Offensive Player award, garnering recognition for the third-straight season
  • Last Michigan Offensive Player of the Week: Michael Boehm (April 25, 2023)

Defensive Player of the Week

Ajax Zappitello, Maryland

Sr. – D — Portland, Oregon — Sunset
  • Played a role in Maryland’s 13-12 overtime win over No. 7 Syracuse on the road
  • Held Joey Spallina, the nation’s leading scorer with 26 points, to a goal and two assists
  • Caused three turnovers and recovered four ground balls against the Orange
  • The 2023 Second Team All-American earns his third career Big Ten defensive honor
  • Last Maryland Defensive Player of the Week: Ajax Zappitello (April 18, 2023)

Specialist of the Week

Logan McNaney, Maryland

Gr. – G — Corning, N.Y. — Salisbury School (CT)
  • Limited No. 7 Syracuse to just one goal over the final 10 minutes of regulation plus overtime in Maryland’s 13-12 victory on Feb. 17
  • Held Syracuse to six goals below its season average of 18 per game
  • Made a season-high 14 saves against the Orange before a crowd of 7,353 at the JMA Wireless Dome
  • The Academic All-Big Ten recipient earns his fourth-career specialist award
  • Last Maryland Specialist of the Week: Luke Wierman (Feb. 6, 2024)
     
Freshman of the Week
Caleb Fyock, Ohio State

Fr. – G — Bowie, Md. — St. John’s College HS
  • Held opposing teams to single-digit goals in Ohio State’s triumph of Bellarmine (10-6) and Air Force (12-4)
  • Made 17 total saves and gathered five ground balls to raise his season record to 3-0
  • Leads the Big Ten in goals-against average (5.17) and save percentage (.667)
  • Secures his first Freshman of the Week honor
  • Last Ohio State Freshman Award winner: Cullen Brown (Feb. 21, 2023)
