Johns Hopkins, Maryland and Ohio State Garner Weekly Awards

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its men’s lacrosse player awards for games played March 30-31.

Offensive Player of the Week

Jack Koras, Maryland

Sr. – M — Lutherville, Md. — Loyola Blakefield

  • Played a role in Maryland’s 13-11 come-from-behind victory over No. 4 Penn State on March 31

  • With 12th-ranked Maryland trailing by three goals, Koras scored a pair of goals 26 seconds into the fourth quarter, sparking a rally that saw the Terrapins go on a 6-1 run

  • Finished with a game-high four goals to go along with four ground balls

  • The Big Ten Distinguished Scholar collects his first Big Ten Offensive Player accolade

  • Last Maryland Offensive Player of the Week: Eric Spanos (Feb. 27, 2024)

Defensive Player of the Week

Beaudan Szuluk, Johns Hopkins

Gr. – D — Avon, Conn. — Avon Old Farms

  • Helped No. 11 Johns Hopkins to a 15-11 win over No. 15 Michigan in Baltimore

  • Snagged five ground balls and caused three turnovers as the Blue Jays recovered from a three-goal deficit

  • Anchored a defense that allowed just four goals in the second half of Saturday’s contest

  • The two-time Academic All-Big Ten recipient receives the second defensive award of the season and his career

  • Last Johns Hopkins Defensive Player of the Week: Beaudan Szuluk (March 5, 2024)

Specialist of the Week

Luke Wierman, Maryland

Gr. – FO — West Chester, Pa. — B. Reed Henderson

  • Excelled at the faceoff dot in Maryland’s 13-11 conference win over Penn State in University Park, Pa.

  • Won 16-of-27 faceoffs, including 11 of 14 (78.6 percent) in the second half as the Terrapins outscored the Nittany Lions, 9-3, over the last 30 minutes

  • Gathered six ground balls and assisted on two goals

  • The 2023 All-Big Ten First Team selection has been honored with the Specialist award on eight occasions during his career, including three times this season

  • Last Maryland Specialist of the Week: Luke Wierman (Feb. 27, 2024)

Freshman of the Week

Caleb Fyock, Ohio State

Fr. – G — Bowie, Md. — St. John’s College HS

  • Backstopped Ohio State to a 14-8 win over Rutgers, marking the program’s first win at RU since the 1999 season

  • Made 12 saves and held the Scarlet Knights to just one goal over the final 17 minutes of regulation

  • Sports the lowest goals-against average (9.40) among Big Ten goalies

  • Earns his second Freshman award of the 2024 season
