Maryland, Penn State and Rutgers Receive Lacrosse Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its men’s lacrosse player awards for games played Feb. 24-25.

Offensive Player of the Week
Eric Spanos, Maryland

Jr. – M — Pottstown, Pa. — Malvern Prep
  • Scored a career-high four goals on five shots to lead No. 4 Maryland past No. 11 Princeton, 13-7, on Feb. 24 in College Park
  • Scored a pair of first period goals to give the Terrapins a lead they never relinquished
  • Added an assist for a five-point day, figuring in a third of Maryland’s scoring
  • The Academic All-Big Ten selection garners his first Big Ten weekly award
  • Last Maryland Offensive Player of the Week: Jack Koras (March 21, 2023)
     
Defensive Player of the Week
Alex Ross, Penn State

So. – D — Davidsonville, Md. — Archbishop Spalding
  • Anchored a defense that held Navy to just three goals on its home field in Penn State’s 13-3 victory Saturday
  • Helped the Nittany Lions hold Navy scoreless for over 17 minutes to start the game
  • Caused two turnovers and gathered three ground balls in a starting role
  • Garners his first weekly award from the Big Ten
  • Last Penn State Defensive Player of the Week: Jack Posey (March 7, 2023)
     
Specialist of the Week
Luke Wierman, Maryland

Gr. – FO — West Chester, Pa. — B. Reed Henderson
  • Won 86.9 percent of his face-offs, going 20-of-23 from the “X”, as No. 4 Maryland defeated No. 11 Princeton, 13-7 on Saturday afternoon
  • Became the first Terrapin to surpass 700 career face-off wins
  • Collected a career-high 13 ground balls against the Tigers
  • The USILA Third Team All-American earns his seventh career Big Ten specialist award and second of the season
  • Gives Maryland back-to-back recipients of the Specialist award
     
Freshman of the Week
Cardin Stoller, Rutgers

Fr. – G — Owings Mills, Md. — Boys Latin School
  • Registered a season-high 15 saves, the most for a Rutgers goaltender in a calendar year, as No. 17 Rutgers downed Loyola, 13-5, Feb. 24 in Baltimore
  • Saves total matched the second-highest figure by a Big Ten goalie this season
  • Held the Greyhounds to five goals while compiling a .750 save percentage
  • Honored with Big Ten Freshman award for the second time this year
  • Last Rutgers Freshman Award winner: Cardin Stoller (Feb. 6, 2024)
