Johns Hopkins, Maryland and Rutgers Receive Lacrosse Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its men’s lacrosse player awards for games played April 6-7.

Offensive Player of the Week

Eric Spanos, Maryland

Jr. – M — Pottstown, Pa. — Malvern Prep

  • Accounted for half of No. 9 Maryland’s goals in an 8-7 win over Ohio State, finishing with five points (four goals, assist)

  • Scored two fourth-quarter goals, including the game-winner, to break a 6-6 deadlock

  • Extended his points streak to 10 games, having earned a point in every game this season

  • The Academic All-Big Ten selection garners his second Big Ten weekly award

  • Last Maryland Offensive Player of the Week: Jack Koras (April 2, 2024)

Defensive Player of the Week

Scott Smith, Johns Hopkins

Sr. – D — Berwyn, Pa. — Conestoga

  • Helped No. 10 Johns Hopkins stay atop the Big Ten standings with a 9-8 overtime win over No. 7 Penn State

  • Anchored a defense that held the Big Ten’s top scoring team to six goals below its season scoring average

  • Gathered four ground balls and forced two turnovers

  • Collects his fourth career Big Ten Defensive award and second of the season

  • Last Johns Hopkins Defensive Player of the Week: Beaudan Szuluk (April 2, 2024)

Specialist of the Week

Cardin Stoller, Rutgers

Fr. – G — Owings Mills, Md. — Boys Latin School

  • Led Rutgers to a 9-7 win over No. 16 Michigan on April 7

  • Made 19 saves, tying the Rutgers Big Ten record; his saves total was the highest by a Big Ten goalie this season

  • Held Michigan to seven goals below its scoring average and to its lowest score in 34 games

  • Chosen Specialist of the Week for the second time this year

  • Last Rutgers Specialist of the Week: Cardin Stoller (March 19, 2024)

Freshman of the Week

Cardin Stoller, Rutgers

Fr. – G — Owings Mills, Md. — Boys Latin School

  • Led Rutgers to a 9-7 win over No. 16 Michigan Sunday in Ann Arbor

  • Recorded the most saves (19) in a Big Ten game since May 2022

  • Kept Michigan off the board for a stretch of 25-plus minutes, during which time Rutgers turned a 2-2 tie into a 7-2 lead that it never relinquished

  • Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season
