USA Lacrosse Magazine Names 40 from Big Ten to All-America Teams

ROSEMONT, Ill. – A total of 40 Big Ten lacrosse student-athletes were recognized by USA Lacrosse Magazine on Tuesday, as the publication announced its list of 2023 Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse All-America Teams.

The Big Ten boasted 18 men’s lacrosse honorees, including six each from Penn State and Maryland, while 22 women’s lacrosse student-athletes were recognized, with eight players included from Northwestern.

Rutgers’ Ethan Rall and Meghan Ball joined Northwestern’s Izzy Scane as Big Ten recipients earning First Team accolades.

Rall, who was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team, led the Scarlet Knights and the Big Ten with 21 caused turnovers while his 49 ground balls were good for second on the team. The senior from Islip, N.Y. finished his 62-game Rutgers career with 85 caused turnovers, setting a new program record.

Ball, the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, led the Big Ten with 60 caused turnovers and 51 ground balls, while her 101 draw controls ranked third. The Raritan, N.J. native also listed second in the nation with 3.53 caused turnovers per game, while her 3.0 ground balls per contest were good for 12th.

The Big Ten’s unanimous selection as Attacker of the Year, Scane leads the nation in points (108), points per game (6.75), goals per game (5.06) and shots per game (10.50), while her 81 goals on the season are good for second. The graduate student scored at least four goals in 15 of her 16 games this season, including a 10-goal performance in a victory over Notre Dame.

The USA Lacrosse Magazine All-American team is the first of a projected three All-American teams to be released this postseason. The All-American teams from the media voting compiled by Inside Lacrosse, as well as the Coaches' All-American teams from the USILA and IWLCA, will be released at a later date this month.
