Indiana and Oregon Win Last Weekly Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Awards

Hoosiers’ Carrel joins Ducks’ Birnbaum and Lutes with honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the week of May 6-13, 2026.

Track Athlete of the Week
Simeon Birnbaum, Oregon
Junior – Mid-distance – Rapid City, S.Dak. – Major: Business Administration

Won the 800m at the Oregon Twilight with a time of 1:44.67
His time is a Big Ten record and the third best in the NCAA this season
Marks Birnbaum’s third Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week award. Last: April 22, 2026

Field Athlete of the Week
Tyler Carrel, Indiana
Senior – Pole vault – Urbana, Ill. – Major: Exercise Science

Won pole vault at the Billy Hayes Invitational with a mark of 5.65m
His mark broke the facility record, which had stood since 1997
His mark was also a personal best and second best in Indiana history
Last Indiana Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week award: Tyler Carrel (May 10, 2023)

Freshman of the Week
Bodey Lutes, Oregon
Freshman – Mid-distance – Coos, Bay, Ore. – Major: Educational Foundations

Finished in second behind a record-setting performance from Simeon Birnbaum in the 800m at the Oregon Twilight
His time is No. 4 in the Big Ten and No. 13 in the NCAA this season
