 </a>    ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference announced Monday that 1,926 students on varsity rosters have earned the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award. The list includes students from all 18 institutions, plus Johns Hopkins and Notre Dame and 41 sports who have recorded a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.7 or higher for the previous academic year.    The 2025-26 class of Distinguished Scholar Award Recipients includes 350 students who maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA during the previous academic year, represented in bold on the official list.    Big Ten Faculty Representatives established the Distinguished Scholar Award in 2008 to supplement the Academic All-Big Ten program. Distinguished Scholar Award recipients must have earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition in the previous academic year, must have been enrolled full time at the institution for the entire previous academic year (two semesters or three quarters) and earned a minimum GPA of 3.70 or better during the previous academic year, excluding any summer grades. The Academic All-Big Ten threshold is a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for a student's academic career.     A complete list of the 2025-26 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award recipients can be found above.    </div>

Big Ten Recognizes 2025-26 Distinguished Scholar Award Recipients 

<div class="payload-richtext">PORTLAND, Ore. - As the sun set over the rolling hills of Cooper Mountain Vineyards on Saturday evening, “Big Life Series: Pacific Northwest” concluded its immersive educational experience where student-athletes from all 18 Big Ten institutions learned firsthand about the rich culture and history of the Pacific Northwest.   Over the course of less than 48 hours, over 175 student-athletes and administrators engaged in programming that included visits to Multnomah Falls, the Oregon Historical Society, the Grande Ronde Reservation, and Cooper Mountain Vineyards. The event brought together participants from all 18 Big Ten institutions, creating opportunities for learning, dialogue, and relationship-building among student-athletes from across the conference.    “Big Life Series: Pacific Northwest was a remarkable experience that allowed attendees to better understand and interact with the history, culture, landscape, and people that give the Pacific Northwest its distinct identity,” said Big Ten Chief Operating Officer Kerry Kenny. “The unique opportunity to connect student-athletes from across the country to an immersive experience outside of their traditional element is what distinguishes the Big Ten in preparing these young men and women for life after campus.”    At the Oregon Historical Society on Saturday morning, student-athletes learned about how Oregon became the state it is today, including the often-untold Black, Native American, and Japanese history that has shaped the state. Participants also toured the Yasui Family exhibit, learning about the challenges Japanese Americans faced during World War II and the advocacy efforts that helped advance civil rights in the decades that followed.    The quote on the back of the Big Life Series: Pacific Northwest T-shirt: “What is done to the least of us can be done to all of us” was from Presidential Medal of Freedom winner Minori Yasui.    “I found his bravery in speaking out about these issues incredible,” said Indiana women’s track & field sprinter Kristina Vincic. “Having a voice isn’t an easy thing and it takes time to build one. That’s something we can definitely tie in to our teams.”     After learning about Native American history at the Oregon Historical Society, participants experienced its living impact firsthand at the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Veterans Powwow. Student-athletes learned about the traditional longhouse, witnessed cultural traditions, and took part in the Grand Entry ceremony.  Often competitors on the field, student-athletes joined together to dance with members of the Grande Ronde Confederation and in honoring Veterans. For many student-athletes, it is the moment they said they will remember most about the trip.    “It was beautiful seeing the tradition unfold right before my eyes and getting involved with it,” said Penn State football student-athlete Armstrong Nnodim. “As athletes we get caught up in the competitive world, so to come here and bond with everyone from different backgrounds was amazing.”   Launched in 2022, the Big Life Series is part of the Big Ten’s commitment to providing educational and developmental opportunities beyond competition. Big Life Series Showcases the Spirit of the Pacific Northwest

<div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, Ill. - As part of the “Big Life Series: Pacific Northwest”, the Big Ten will host over 150 student-athletes, coaches and administrators from all 18 Big Ten schools in Portland, Ore. from Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 12. The program is designed to deepen participants’ understanding of the region’s rich history, culture and communities through an immersive educational experience.   Programming will begin Friday evening with a nature walk through Multnomah Falls to showcase the region’s deep ties to nature and the history of the Pacific Northwest landscape.    On Saturday, student-athletes will visit the Oregon Historical Society and have the chance to learn about the Japanese American West Coast experience and hear firsthand from a member of the Oregon Black Pioneers. Through discussions centered on resilience, community, and historical impact, participants will gain a deeper appreciation for the individuals and stories that have shaped the Pacific Northwest.    The group will then travel to the Grand Ronde Reservation for a Veterans Powwow, which will provide an opportunity to engage with living cultural traditions and better understand the history, values and contributions of the Native American communities across the region.   The evening will conclude with a dinner at Cooper Mountain Vineyard, where student-athletes will have a hands-on discussion about the agricultural history of the region and the grape-growing operation.   The Big Life series is an immersive educational experience started in 2022 that focuses on engaging, educating, and empowering Big Ten student-athletes, coaches, and administrators. With trips to Selma, Alabama; Mount Vernon, Iowa; and Portland, Oregon attendees learn about the historical and cultural significance of the region. Since its inception, over 500 students-athletes have participated in these programs. Oregon's Birnbaum, McCormick Tabbed Bowerman Award Semifinalists

<div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, ILL. - The Big Ten Conference announced the 2026 Big Ten Men’s Outdoor Track and Field postseason individual award recipients on Wednesday, as selected by the conference’s head coaches. The NCAA championship meet was held last weekend at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Oregon’s Simeon Birnbaum and Ben Smith won Men’s Track Athlete of the Year and Freshman of the Year, respectively, while Minnesota’s Angelos Mantzouranis was tabbed as Field Athlete of the Year.    Birnbaum claimed the men’s 1500m title in front of a home crowd at Hayward with a time of 3:36.05. He was a whole second faster than runner-up Trent McFarland from Michigan. He helped Oregon finish to Big Ten team-best fifth place at NCAAs.     Mantzouranis becomes the second Gopher in a row to win the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Year award, following fellow thrower Kostas Zaltos. Mantzouranis also became the second straight Gopher to win the hammer throw title, doing so with a mark of 75.78m. Smith becomes Oregon’s first Big Ten Outdoor Freshman of the Year, as he became the first Duck to win the NCAA shot put title since 1982.  </a>  EUGENE, Ore. – On the final day of the men’s outdoor track & field season, the Big Ten rounded out a strong season with three top ten team finishers and an individual champion. Oregon finished in fifth place with a score of 50 points, followed by Nebraska (9th, 28 points) and USC (10th, 27 points). It marks the first time since 1954 that three men’s teams placed in the top ten at NCAAs when Illinois, Michigan and Purdue achieved that feat.    With the cheers of Oregon teammates and supporters behind him, Simeon Birnbaum claimed the 1500m title with ease. Birnbaum beat out Big Ten rival Trent McFarland from Michigan by over a second. Wisconsin’s Matan Ivri and fellow Duck Elliott Cook also had podium worthy performances, finishing in fifth and sixth place respectively.  In para athletics, Illinois’ Evan Correll cruised to his fourth championship in a row in the men’s wheelchair 100m. He slighted his previous best and meet-record of 14.33 seconds by a hundredth of a second. His teammate Jason Robinson came in second with a time of 15.36.    Overall, 24 Big Ten men’s athletes and three relay teams placed on the podium, while 85 earned All-American honors. Smith’s winning mark was 21.04m, and he remained over the 20-meter mark in the entirety of the 2026 outdoor season.  Smith highlighted what was a deep roster of Big Ten throwers this year. On the podium, every spot was represented by a Big Ten thrower except for second place. To close out the day, Nebraska pole vaulter Dyson Wicker, who was a home crowd favorite at the Big Ten Championships in Lincoln, continued his hot streak and earned the NCAA title with a clearance of 5.85m.

Big Ten Qualifies 250 for OT&F Championships

250 Big Ten Student-Athletes Headed to NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships 

<div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced the 2026 Big Ten Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship award winners on Wednesday, as selected by the Conference’s head coaches. The championship meet was held last weekend at Nebraska Outdoor Track in Lincoln, Neb.  USC's Eddie Nketia earned Men’s Track Athlete of the Championships accolades, while Nebraska's Dyson Wicker was selected as Field Athlete of the Championships and Ducks’ head coach Jerry Schumacher was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.  Nketia, a junior, claimed both the 100m and 200m titles, and helped USC achieve fourth place in the 4x100m relays. In the 100m, Nketia dashed to a 9.74 time (+5.6w) and in the 200m, after finishing sixth in preliminaries, he recorded a 20.03 (+7.5w) to claim the dual title.  Nebraska's Wicker bested the meet record in the pole vault directly in front of a home crowd. The sophomore, who won the 2026 Big Ten indoor pole vault title, cleared a mark of 5.72m (18-9 ¼). This mark beat the previous record set by Illinois’ Daren McDonough, which had stood since 1994.  Schumacher claimed his second outdoor Coach of the Year honors after leading Oregon to its second Big Ten Outdoor Men’s championship. He also won back-to-back indoor Coach of the Year awards. Schumacher has won five out of six of the championships between men’s Cross Country, Indoor, and Outdoor Track and Field since the Ducks joined the Conference in 2024.  The Big Ten Conference office recognizes one student-athlete from each team as Sportsmanship Award Honorees. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the student-athletes must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.  </a> LINCOLN, Neb. – Oregon won the Men’s Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday. This is head coach Jerry Schumacher’s second men’s Big Ten Outdoor championship with the Ducks.  With the win, Oregon becomes the first team to sweep the Big Ten men’s and women’s cross country, indoor and outdoor championships since Wisconsin did so in 1996-97. Minnesota and Nebraska tied for second place with 81 points each, while USC (70.5 points) and Ohio State (62 points) rounded out the top five.  Oregon also earned five individual Big Ten Outdoor titles, as the Ducks were victorious in the 10,000m, 3,000m steeplechase, 1,500m, shot put, and the 5,000m. On Friday night, Luke Tewalt won the 10,000m with a time of 29:49.24. On Saturday evening, Benjamin Balazs claimed the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 8:49.02. The Ducks then claimed three events on Sunday, as Simeon Birnbaum won the 1500m (4:00.98) and Tayson Echohawk was victorious in the 5,000m (14:08.84). Freshman Ben Smith also claimed the shot put title, throwing a personal best of 20.88m (68-6).  Two meet records were also broken this weekend, and both were by Nebraska in front of a home crowd. Keyshawn Strachan threw a meet-best of 79.36m (260-4), while sophomore Dyson Wicker cleared 5.72m (18-9 ¼), which was also a personal best.  The Big Ten Track Athlete of the Championships, Field Athlete of the Championships, Coach of the Year and Sportsmanship Award honorees will be announced on Wednesday (May 22). Washington earned six more points to stay in second place with 66 total, followed by Minnesota with 48 points. Four individual champions were crowned on the men’s side in the decathlon, discus, long jump and 3,000m steeplechase — while five individual champions were determined on the women’s side in the heptathlon, shot put, high jump, long jump and 3,000m steeplechase.  In the women’s long jump, Rutgers’ Celine Brown claimed gold with a mark of 6.48m (21-3 ¼). She became the first Scarlet Knight to win a Big Ten title since Chloe Timberg won pole vault in 2024.  UCLA’s Valentina Fakrogha claimed the women’s high jump title with a meet record jump of 1.89m (6-2 ¼). Illinois added 18 points to its total in the event, as Rose Yeboah (2nd), Siun Quinn (3rd) and Emma Haeggblom (5th) all earned podium finishes.     Nebraska’s Axelina Johansson won the women’s shot put title, which became her sixth Big Ten title as a Husker. Her mark of 19.97m (65-6 ¼) was a meet record, Big Ten overall record and a Swedish national record.  Both the heptathlon and decathlon, which began on Friday morning and concluded Saturday evening with victories by Illinois in both. JaiCieonna Gero-Holt scored first in high jump and shot put to claim the heptathlon. Luuk Pelkmans tallied a winning score of 8004 with first place finishes in shot put and the 1500m.     Minnesota’s Charles Godfred, who won the men’s long jump title in 2025, repeated his success with a winning jump of 7.99m (26-2 ¾).  Michigan (second, sixth) and Rutgers (third, seventh) each had two podium finishers as well.    USC went 1-2 in men’s discus, as Racquil Broderick led the way for the Trojans with a throw of 62.80m (206-0). His freshman teammate Mico Lampien recorded a personal best 59.81m (196-2).     To conclude the evening’s running events, both the men’s and women’s 3,000m steeplechase took place. Michigan State’s Katelyn Stewart-Barnett cruised to a victory, as her time of 9:44.32 was a season best and beat the next-best runner by over 13 seconds.  </a>  LINCOLN, Neb. – The 2026 Big Ten Championships, hosted by the University of Nebraska, began Friday at the Nebraska Outdoor Track, a facility that opened for competition this season.  At the end of day one, Washington women’s (60 points) and Oregon men’s (38 points) each claimed an early lead. Minnesota had a successful day and finds itself in second on both women’s (34 points) and men’s (16 points).  Three individual champions were crowned on the men’s side in the hammer throw, javelin, and the 10,000m— while four individual champions were determined on the women’s side in hammer throw, pole vault, javelin and 10,000m.  The day kicked off with the women’s hammer throw, where Minnesota’s Anthonett Nabwe won the title for the second year in a row with a mark of 69.22 (227-1). Two other Gophers joined her on the podium, as Hadley Streit earned third place, and Ella Pavlovich claimed fifth for a total of 20 points.  Angelos Mantzouranis of Minnesota became the sixth straight Golden Gopher to win the event at the Championships with a season best throw of 75.98m (249-3). Iowa’s Ryan Johnson, who won the Indoor title this season, claimed second. In the women’s pole vault, Hana Moll became a record-setter once again with a new meet record, NCAA record, and personal best mark of 4.83m (15-10). Her sister, Amanda, claimed silver with a season’s best 4.63m (15-8 ¼). Between Hana and Amanda Moll, the two have claimed every pole vault title in both indoors and outdoors since Washington joined the Big Ten in 2024.  Washington also captured the women’s javelin title as junior Ashley Schroeder recorded a personal-best of 54.72m (179-6) on her fourth attempt. On the men’s side, Nebraska’s Keyshawn Strachan recorded a new meet record of 79.36m (260-4) to claim the title in front of Husker faithful. Oregon also recorded 18 team points in the men’s javelin with a second, third and fifth place finish.  After a weather delay, the night concluded with the men’s and women’s 10,000m. In the women’s 10,000m, Washington added to its lead with 18 total points, led by a title performance from Chloe Thomas with a time of 32:59.51, the only sub-33-minute mark in the field. Oregon’s Luke Tewalt earned first place and was one of three finishers on the podium for the Ducks, adding on to its first day lead.     Team Standings Men’s After Three Events   1.
