Nebraska and USC Win Final Weekly Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Honors
Huskers’ Boonstra and Kerr join Trojans’ Brackins Jr. with weekly awards
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the week of May 7-May 14, 2025.
Track Athlete of the Week
Johnny Brackins Jr., USC
Senior – Sprints – Kasnas City, Mo. – Major: Psychology
- Won both the 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles at the APU Franson Last Chance Invite
- Won the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.53 (+1.7) and ran 13.48 (+2.2w) in the prelims
- Brackins Jr. now leads the Big Ten and ranks tied for 16th in the country in the 110m hurdles
- His 400m hurdles time of 50.11 was a PR, second best in the conference and 14th in the country Last USC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week award: Garrett Kaalund (May 7, 2025)
Field Athlete of the Week
Kavian Kerr, Nebraska
Junior – Jumps – St. Catherine, Jamaica – Major: Criminology and Criminal Justice
- Won the long jump at the Ward Haylett Invite with a mark of 24-11 ¼ (7.60m)
- His mark is 13th best in the Big Ten this season
- Last Nebraska Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week award: Arthur Petersen (April 26, 2023)
Freshman of the Week
Riley Boonstra, Nebraska
Freshman – Distance – Hickman, Neb. – Major: Finance
- Won the 3000m steeplechase at the Ward Haylett Invite
- His time of 9:19.34 was a personal best
- This marks Nebraska’s first Outdoor Freshman of the Week Award
