Penn State, USC, Washington Take Home Weekly Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Honors

Nittany Lions’ Dwyer, Trojans’ Gerald and Kaalund, Huskies’ Toney collect weekly accolades

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the week of March 26-April 2, 2025.  

Track Athlete of the Week  
Garrett Kaalund, USC 
Junior – Sprints – San Antonio, Texas – Major: Legal Studies 

  • Won the men’s 200m dash and the second leg of USC’s winning 4x100m relay at the Battle on the Bayou 

  • His 200m time of 20.05 (+1.4) is a PR and currently first in the NCAA 

  • The 4x100m relay finish of 38.60 is currently second among NCAA teams and tied for third on USC’s all-time relay list 

  • Last USC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week award: Yougendy Mauricette (March 26, 2025) 

Co-Field Athletes of the Week 
Elias Gerald, USC 
Junior– Jumps – Saratoga Springs, Utah – Major: Communication 

  • Won the high jump competition at the Battle of the Bayou 

  • His clearance of 7-3.75 (2.23m) is a PR and NCAA-leading mark 

  • Gerald currently leads all Big Ten high jumpers by 4.25 inches 

  • Last USC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week award: Racquil Broderick (March 26, 2025) 

Scott Toney, Washington 
Senior – Pole Vault – Mountain View, Calif. – Major: Information Management 

  • Cleared 18-2 ½ (5.55m) at the Texas Relays to win the event 

  • His mark is currently tied for the No. 1 mark in the NCAA and ranks fifth in Washington school history 

  • This marks Washington’s first Big Ten Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week award 

Freshman of the Week 
Ajani Dwyer, Penn State 
Freshman – Sprints – Sewell, N.J. – Major: Accounting 

  • Set two top five marks in program history in both the 100m and 200m at LSU’s Battle on the Bayou 

  • His 100m time of 10.27 is fifth best in Penn State program history 

  • Dwyer’s 200m time of 20.55 is currently the No. 3 time in the NCAA and second best in Penn State history 

  • This marks Penn State’s first Outdoor Freshman of the Week Award

Freshman:  Bryce Ruland, IOWA 

April 2
