Ohio State and Oregon Receive Weekly Tennis Awards

<div class="payload-richtext">Premzl/Villanger, PUR / Photo courtesy of Purdue Athletics ROSEMONT, Ill. — Two weeks into the 2025-26 men's tennis season and significant developments have already occurred for Big Ten players. Purdue's Henrik Villanger and Maj Premzi won the doubles crown at the 49th Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic. The duo went 4-0 and culminated their tournament run with a 6-4 win over the mixed team of Maximus Dessault (TCU) and Collin Beduhn (Wisconsin) on Sunday. In Tulsa, Ohio State's Aidan Kim advanced to the singles finals of the ITA All-American Championships before falling to Arizona's Jay Friend. Kim was one of four Big Ten players to qualify for the 2025 NCAA Individual Championships. He will be joined in Waco by Kenta Miyoshi (Illinois), Ozan Baris (Michigan State) and Matthew Forbes (Michigan State), who qualified based on their results at the All-American. </div>

<div class="payload-richtext">Photo courtesy of UCLA Athletics UCLA’s run in the NCAA’s came to an end with a 4-1 loss to third-ranked Texas in quarterfinals action May 16 in Waco, Texas. Starting with the Big Ten Tournament, the 16th-ranked Bruins (19-9) had won six-straight matches in the postseason. The 2024-25 season, which began Sept. 12, saw Ohio State capture its 19th-straight regular season championship while UCLA secured the Big Ten Tournament title. The Big Ten sent eight teams to the NCAA Tournament — UCLA, Ohio State, Michigan State, USC, Michigan, Illinois, Washington and Nebraska. In the fall, Ozan Baris of Michigan State and the Michigan duo of Gavin Young and Benjamin Kittay reached the NCAA Finals. All-three earned ITA All-American status along with Aidan Kim of Ohio State (singles), Spencer Johnson of UCLA (singles), Kenta Miyoshi of Illinois (singles), Aadarsh Tripathi and Alexander Hoogmartens of UCLA (doubles) and Bryce Nakashima and William Jensen of Ohio State (doubles). Big Ten student-athletes also combined for four singles titles and six doubles crowns during tournament play this season.</div>

The Bruins (19-8) are the lone unseeded team left in a field that includes No. 1 seed Wake Forest, No. 2 TCU, No. 3 Texas, No. 4 Stanford, No. 7 Virginia, No. 8 Columbia and No. 12 Mississippi State. UCLA defeated rival USC, 4-2, on Friday in Westwood to capture a Super Regional trophy and earn a trip to Waco. Head Coach Billy Martin's squad has won six postseason matches and 11-straight overall.</div>

Eight Big Ten Teams Qualify for NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship

<div class="payload-richtext">Photo by Kirk Irwin COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 2 seed UCLA made the most of its debut appearance in the Big Ten Conference Men’s Tennis Tournament, downing No. 1 seed Ohio State, 4-3, in the championship match Sunday afternoon. The final was played under sunny conditions with temperatures in the 60s at the Auer Tennis Complex. With the win, UCLA receives the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. In a match that featured four lead changes and three ties, UCLA clinched the deciding point at No. 2 singles when Emon van Lobel Sels defeated Alexander Bernard, 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 6-3. Van Lobel Sels was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player and joined on the all-tournament team by Alexander Hoogmartens. UCLA (16-8) also earned single wins at the No. 3 and No. 4 singles flights after taking the doubles point. Four of the six singles matches extended to three sets during the 3-hour and 32-minute match. The 22nd-ranked Bruin have now won eight straight matches, a streak that followed a 4-0 loss to Ohio State April 4 in Columbus. Sixth-ranked Ohio State (26-3) suffered its first loss since Valentine’s Day and saw its 76-match home win streak (dating to 2021) come to an end. OSU had won the last two Big Ten tournaments and was making its 21st-straight appearance in the finals. Ohio State’s Bryce Nakashima and Preston Stearns were named to the all-tournament team. The Big Ten will find out how many of its teams qualify for the NCAA Tournament when the field is announced on Monday at 5:30 p.m. ET on NCAA.com. UCLA Wins Big Ten Men’s Tennis Tournament

<div class="payload-richtext">Photo by Kirk Irwin COLUMBUS, Ohio — Semifinals Saturday at the Big Ten Men's Tennis Tournament saw No. 1 seed Ohio State and No. 2 seed UCLA move on to tomorrow's championship match (12 p.m. ET). Ohio State knocked off Washington, 4-1, in the first semifinal of the day. After clinching the doubles point, the Buckeyes (26-2) won the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles flights to earn their 21st consecutive trip to the tournament final. No. 21-ranked UCLA downed 22nd-ranked Michigan State, 4-0, in the second semifinal. The Bruins (15-8) won all three of their singles matches in straight sets in a match that was completed in just over two hours. Ohio State and UCLA will meet for the second time this season. In the prior matchup, the Buckeyes came away with a 4-0 win in Columbus on April 4.</div>

Ohio State and UCLA Advance to Big Ten Tournament Final

Rain caused all four matches to be played indoors at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center. The top four seeds — Ohio State, UCLA, Michigan State and Washington respectively – earned berths into tomorrow's semifinals. Ohio State will host Washington at 11 a.m. ET on Saturday, followed by UCLA and Michigan State at 2 p.m. Ohio State advanced with a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Illinois. Illinois claimed the double point and led 3-2 before OSU rallied, securing match point with Jack Anthrop's win at No. 3 singles. In the process, OSU won its 75th-consecutive match at home. In a match between teams tied in the standings and ranked back-to-back in the ITA poll, No. 39 Washington prevailed over No. 40 Nebraska, 4-3. The three-hour match was decided when Soham Purohit registered a three-set win at No. 3 singles. The result marked the second win for Washington (17-7) over Nebraska this season by identical scores. No. 22-ranked UCLA won its Big Ten Tournament debut with a 4-1 decision over No. 28 Michigan. Spencer Johnson, ranked 32nd in the country, dropped just two games in his singles match as the Bruins (14-9) won their sixth-straight contest. In the final match of the night, Michigan State pinned a 4-2 loss on USC. Michigan State (16-8) earned the doubles point, and despite dropping matches at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, received three more wins from its lineup to extend its stay in Columbus. </div>

<div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference revealed its individual award winners, All-Big Ten selections, All-Freshman Team and Sportsmanship Award recipients for men’s tennis on Thursday. The postseason honors were voted on by the conference’s head coaches. Illinois junior Kenta Miyoshi was named Player of the Year and UCLA’s Rudy Quan chosen Freshman of the Year. Ohio State’s Ty Tucker was named Coach of the Year for the 18th time in his career and for the fourth season in a row. Miyoshi, who earned ITA All-America honors this past fall, sports a 28-10 singles record, which included an 8-2 mark in Big Ten competition. The native of Kawasaki, Japan also owns an 18-8 mark against ranked opponents. During the spring duals season, Miyoshi has won 79 percent of his matches (15-4) played at No. 1 singles. He becomes the eighth Illinois recipient of the player of the year award and the first since 2017. Quan boosts a 13-5 singles record, having won six of seven matches during the Big Ten season. He was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week three times and has eight wins against nationally-ranked opponents. In his first season on the collegiate scene, Quan has taken over the No. 1 singles spot for the Bruins and is ranked 21st in singles by the ITA. In his 26th season at Ohio State, Tucker has guided the sixth-ranked Buckeyes to a 24-2 overall record. Ohio State recorded six wins against Top 20 teams and captured its 19th consecutive Big Ten regular season title. The Buckeyes finished 13-0 in Big Ten play to extend their five-year conference win streak to 47 matches. Miyoshi and USC’s Peter Makk were unanimous selections to the All-Big Ten First Team while NCAA singles runner-up Ozan Baris of Michigan State was named to the team for the third-straight year. The Big Ten also recognized 14 Sportsmanship Award honorees, who distinguished themselves through sportsmanship, ethical behavior and good citizenship. Oregon and UCLA Secure Weekly Tennis Awards

<div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced the 2025 Big Ten Men’s Tennis Tournament bracket on Sunday. Ohio State earns the No. 1 seed after winning outright the Big Ten Championship. The third-ranked Buckeyes finished the conference season with an 13-0 mark to capture their 19th consecutive regular season title. The Big Ten Tournament will take place April 24-27 at Ohio State’s Auer Tennis Complex in Columbus, Ohio. No. 9 seed Oregon (13-12) and No. 8 seed Illinois (14-10) will open the tournament with a first round match at 11 a.m. ET on April 24. The winner of that match will face No. 1 seed Ohio State (24-2) in the quarterfinals on April 25 at 9 a.m. ET. No. 10 seed Northwestern (12-16) and No. 7 seed Michigan (14-11) will meet in the other first round match at 2 p.m. ET on Thursday. The winner of that match will encounter No. 2 seed UCLA (13-8) on Friday at 1:30 p.m. ET in the quarterfinals. No. 5 seed Nebraska (15-8) and No. 4 seed Washington (16-7) will play at 11 a.m. ET on April 25. No. 6 seed USC (14-9) and No. 3 seed Michigan State (15-8) will wrap up quarterfinal action with a 4 p.m. ET match on Friday. The Big Ten Tournament Semifinals will be played April 26 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. (ET), while the conference championship match is set for April 27 at Noon (ET). All matches of the tournament will be streamed on B1G+.</div>

2025 Big Ten Men’s Tennis Tournament Bracket Announced

<div class="payload-richtext">Photo courtesy of Ohio State AthleticsROSEMONT, Ill. – Third-ranked Ohio State recorded a 4-0 home win over 66th-ranked Indiana on Friday afternoon to win outright the 2025 Big Ten Men's Tennis regular season title. OSU will be the No. 1 seed when it hosts the Big Ten Tennis Tournament next week in Columbus. The Buckeyes (23-2, 12-0 Big Ten) have won 19 consecutive Big Ten regular season titles dating to the 2006 season under Head Coach Ty Tucker. That streak is the second-longest in Big Ten history for any sport, trailing only Iowa’s string of 25-straight wrestling titles (1974-98). Ohio State also owns a 46-match conference win streak that extends back to March 2021.</div>
