Eight Big Ten Teams Earn Berths to NCAA Women's Golf Regionals

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Eight teams from the Big Ten Conference have qualified for the 2023 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Regionals. Illinois earned the conference’s automatic berth while at-large berths were given to Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State and Purdue. Regionals take place May 8-10 as 72 teams battle for 30 spots at the national championships.
 
Six regional sites will host 12 teams and six individuals each. Five teams and one individual (not on an advancing team) from each region will advance to the NCAA National Championships slated for May 19-24 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
 
Illinois received a No. 9 seed and will compete at the San Antonio Regional, traveling to TPC San Antonio in Texas. The Illini are making their 10th regional appearance, having qualified four-straight years. Illinois captured the Big Ten Championship last week in Pittsburgh, Pa.
 
The highest seeding for a Big Ten team belongs to Northwestern, seeded third at the Palm Beach Gardens Regional in Florida. A national runner-up in 2017, the Wildcats have qualified for the 13th-straight season and the 20th time in program history. Michigan State is seeded sixth at Palm Beach Gardens, site of the PGA National Resort. The Spartans are making their 22nd appearance all-time having qualified seven-straight seasons.
 
Ohio State and Maryland head south to participate in the Athens Regional at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Georgia. The fourth-seeded Buckeyes are making their 27th regional visit, the most in conference history. No. 6 seed Maryland is taking part in a regional for the seventh time.
 
No. 9 Purdue and No. 10 Nebraska travel to the Raleigh Regional at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in North Carolina. The Boilermakers are making their eighth-straight trip to regionals and their 25th overall. Nebraska returns to regional action for the 13th time in school history.
 
Eighth seed Michigan stays close to home, taking part in the Westfield Regional at The Club at Chatham Hills Golf Course in Westfield, Indiana. Michigan qualifies for the third consecutive year and for the 12th time overall as a team.
 
Individually, Minnesota’s Isabella McCauley and Luisamariana Mesones compete at Westfield and Penn State’s Mathilde Delavallade at Athens.
