Penn State Wins Inaugural National Golf Invitational

OFFICIAL RESULTS

MARICOPA, Ariz.
-- Penn State led wire-to-wire to capture the inaugural National Golf Invitational, held May 12-14, at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. It was the second tournament title of the season for Coach Denise St. Pierre's squad.

The Nittany Lions compiled a score of 878 over 54 holes, finishing 11 strokes ahead of Iowa, giving the Big Ten a one-two finish at the postseason event. The Hawkeyes (889) held off Mercer (890) and Texas State (892). The field also included Santa Clara (896), UC Riverside (899), Western Carolina (901), Middle Tennessee (902), Grand Canyon (911) and Seattle (912).

Iowa freshman Shannyn Vogler earned medalist honors with a 5-under-par 211. Michelle Cox of Penn State was the only other golfer to finish under par, carding a 3-under 213.
