Michigan State and Northwestern Complete Second Round Action at NCAA Championships

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Northwestern moved up a spot and Michigan State still resides in the top-20 as the second round of the NCAA Women's Golf Championships concluded Saturday at the Grayhawk Golf Club.

The 15th-ranked Wildcats shot a 291, shaving 12 strokes off their opening round score, and stand in 27th place after 54 holes with a 594 score. Lauryn Nguyen and Jieni Li both shot even-round 72s and moved up 21 spots to stand tied for 69th at 147.

Michigan State, ranked 33rd, finished at 294 for the day and occupies 19th place with a 587 total. Katie Lu is still the lowest scorer Big Ten players after her 72 put her even at 144 for the tournament, good enough for 38th place.

Wake Forest (559) holds a two stroke lead over Stanford atop the leaderboard.

Tomorrow's third round action promises to be suspenseful as the 30-team field will be cut to 15 teams for the last round of stroke play on Monday.
