Penn State, Northwestern, and Maryland Net Weekly Women’s Lacrosse Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced this week’s Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Awards for the week of March 19-25.

Offensive Players of the Week 

Kristin O’Neill, Penn State

Sr. – M – Odenton, Md. – Archbishop Spalding

  • Scored six goals, including the overtime game-winning marker as No. 19 Penn State upset then-No. 1 Northwestern 14-13

  • Converted three of four free position shots, including the game’s final play with 1:17 left in overtime

  • Scooped three ground balls in the victory

  • Scored her first career Offensive Player of the Week honor

  • Last Penn State Offensive Player of the Week: Gretchen Gilmore (March 21, 2023)

Midfielder of the Week

Samantha Smith, Northwestern

Jr. – M – Mill Valley, Calif. – Tamalpais

  • Paired 22 draw controls and three assists, as No. 3 Northwestern split a pair of contests

  • Paired eight draw controls and two assists in the Wildcats’ 14-13 overtime loss at No. 19 Penn State

  • Secured a career-high 14 draw controls to go with an assist in Northwestern’s 16-10 win at No. 13 North Carolina

  • Nabs her first career Midfielder of the Week award

  • Last Northwestern Midfielder of the Week: Madison Taylor (March 7, 2023)

Defensive Player of the Week  

Meghan Ball, Maryland

Gr. – D – Raritan, N.J. – Bridgewater-Raritan

  • Totaled nine draw controls and our caused turnovers, as No. 1 Maryland scored a pair of wins

  • Collected five draw controls and caused a pair of turnovers in a 13-7 win at Georgetown

  • Paired four draw controls, two caused turnovers, and a ground ball to anchor the Terps’ 13-8 victory over Rutgers

  • Earns her seventh career Defensive Player of the Week accolade

  • Last Maryland Defensive Player of the Week: Emily Sterling (March 12, 2024)

Freshman of the Week  

Sydney Manning, Penn State 

GK – Malvern, Pa. – Great Valley

  • Recorded four saves and a ground ball over the game’s final 24:35 to earn the victory in the Nittany Lions’ upset win over Northwestern

  • Collects her first Freshman of the Week honor

  • Last Penn State Freshman of the Week: Brooke Hoss (April 26, 2022)
