Maryland, Michigan and Northwestern Claim Weekly Women’s Lacrosse Honors

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced this week’s Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Awards for the week of March 5 – 11. 

Offensive Players of the Week

Libby May, Maryland 

Grad. – A – Sparks, Md. – Hereford – Major: Public Health Science 

• Scored six goals to help Maryland to a 2-0 week with wins over No. 2 James Madison and William & Mary 

• Led the No. 9 Terps to an 11-8 victory over JMU with a season-best four goals on five shots 

• Netted a pair of goals on three shots at William & Mary  

• Extended her scoring streak, tallying at least two points in each game so far this season. She has now scored multiple goals in 52 games in her career 

• Last Maryland Offensive Player of the Week: Hannah Leubecker (Feb. 20, 2024) 

Midfielder of the Week 

Lily Montemarano, Michigan 

Sr. – M – Bethesda, Md. – Stone Ridge – Major: Psychology 

• Broke the Michigan single game draw record with 12 draw control wins as part of an 11-5 win over Ohio State  

• Added seven more draw control wins against Central Michigan 

• Tallied a pair of goals in an 11-3 rout of CMU on Saturday and scored one goal in the win over the Buckeyes 

• Last Michigan Midfielder of the Week: Julia Schwabe (Feb. 14, 2023) 

Defensive Player of the Week

Emily Sterling, Maryland 

Gr. – GK – Bel Air, Md. – John Carroll – Major: Public Health Science  

• Recorded a season-high 14 saves against No. 2 James Madison as part of a 17-save week  

• Made nine saves in the second half, allowing the Dukes to score just three goals to secure the 11-8 win. As a team, Maryland outscored James Madison, 6-3 in the second half  

• Came up with three saves on eight shots faced at William & Mary

• Recorded her first career assist in a 25-8 win over UAlbany on Sunday
