Minnesota and USC Garner Weekly Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Awards
Gophers’ Nabwe joins Trojans’ Whyte and Awoleye with honors
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the week of April 1-8, 2026.
Track Athlete of the Week
Madison Whyte, USC
Junior – Sprints – Newport News, Va. – Major: Pharmacology and Drug Development
- Finished runner-up in both the 200m (22.73) and 400m (50.06) at LSU Battle on the Bayou
- Whyte’s 200m is No. 3 in the NCAA and her 400m is No. 2 in the NCAA this season
- Both times also were Big Ten bests this season
- Her 400m time of 50.06 is a new personal best and the second-fastest time in program history
- Last USC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week award: Madison Whyte (April 16, 2025)
Field Athlete of the Week
Anthonett Nabwe, Minnesota
RS Junior – Throws – Monrovia, Liberia/Jamestown, N.D. – Major: Kinesiology
- Broke the all-time Big Ten hammer throw record at the Battle on the Bayou with a first-attempt 71.22m (233-8)
- Registered a lifetime best 59.58m (195-5) in the discus to finish as the meet’s runner-up
- Nabwe has the Big Ten record in the indoor weight throw and the hammer throw outdoors
- Last Minnesota Field Athlete of the Week award: Anthonett Nabwe (April 30, 2025)
Freshman of the Week
Oluwatosin Awoleye, USC
Freshman – Mid-distance – Mobile, Ala. – Major: Health and Human Sciences
- Placed second in her outdoor 800m collegiate debut at LSU Battle on the Bayou
- Her debut time of 2:02.21 broke the USC freshman record set 28 years ago
- Her time is best by a Big Ten freshman, third-best in USC history and No. 9 in the NCAA this season
