 </a>    ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Big Ten Conference announced Monday that 1,962 students on varsity rosters have earned the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award. The list includes students from all 18 institutions, plus Johns Hopkins and Notre Dame and 41 sports who have recorded a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.7 or higher for the previous academic year.    The 2025-26 class of Distinguished Scholar Award Recipients includes 359 students who maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA during the previous academic year, represented in bold on the official list.    Big Ten Faculty Representatives established the Distinguished Scholar Award in 2008 to supplement the Academic All-Big Ten program. Distinguished Scholar Award recipients must have earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition in the previous academic year, must have been enrolled full time at the institution for the entire previous academic year (two semesters or three quarters) and earned a minimum GPA of 3.70 or better during the previous academic year, excluding any summer grades. Big Ten Recognizes 2025-26 Distinguished Scholar Award Recipients 

<div class="payload-richtext">PORTLAND, Ore. - As the sun set over the rolling hills of Cooper Mountain Vineyards on Saturday evening, “Big Life Series: Pacific Northwest” concluded its immersive educational experience where student-athletes from all 18 Big Ten institutions learned firsthand about the rich culture and history of the Pacific Northwest.   Over the course of less than 48 hours, over 175 student-athletes and administrators engaged in programming that included visits to Multnomah Falls, the Oregon Historical Society, the Grande Ronde Reservation, and Cooper Mountain Vineyards. The event brought together participants from all 18 Big Ten institutions, creating opportunities for learning, dialogue, and relationship-building among student-athletes from across the conference.    “Big Life Series: Pacific Northwest was a remarkable experience that allowed attendees to better understand and interact with the history, culture, landscape, and people that give the Pacific Northwest its distinct identity,” said Big Ten Chief Operating Officer Kerry Kenny. “The unique opportunity to connect student-athletes from across the country to an immersive experience outside of their traditional element is what distinguishes the Big Ten in preparing these young men and women for life after campus.”    At the Oregon Historical Society on Saturday morning, student-athletes learned about how Oregon became the state it is today, including the often-untold Black, Native American, and Japanese history that has shaped the state. Participants also toured the Yasui Family exhibit, learning about the challenges Japanese Americans faced during World War II and the advocacy efforts that helped advance civil rights in the decades that followed.    The quote on the back of the Big Life Series: Pacific Northwest T-shirt: “What is done to the least of us can be done to all of us” was from Presidential Medal of Freedom winner Minori Yasui.    “I found his bravery in speaking out about these issues incredible,” said Indiana women’s track & field sprinter Kristina Vincic. “Having a voice isn’t an easy thing and it takes time to build one. That’s something we can definitely tie in to our teams.”     After learning about Native American history at the Oregon Historical Society, participants experienced its living impact firsthand at the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Veterans Powwow. Student-athletes learned about the traditional longhouse, witnessed cultural traditions, and took part in the Grand Entry ceremony.  Often competitors on the field, student-athletes joined together to dance with members of the Grande Ronde Confederation and in honoring Veterans. For many student-athletes, it is the moment they said they will remember most about the trip.    “It was beautiful seeing the tradition unfold right before my eyes and getting involved with it,” said Penn State football student-athlete Armstrong Nnodim. “As athletes we get caught up in the competitive world, so to come here and bond with everyone from different backgrounds was amazing.”   Launched in 2022, the Big Life Series is part of the Big Ten’s commitment to providing educational and developmental opportunities beyond competition. Big Life Series Showcases the Spirit of the Pacific Northwest

<div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, Ill. - As part of the “Big Life Series: Pacific Northwest”, the Big Ten will host over 150 student-athletes, coaches and administrators from all 18 Big Ten schools in Portland, Ore. from Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 12. The program is designed to deepen participants’ understanding of the region’s rich history, culture and communities through an immersive educational experience.   Programming will begin Friday evening with a nature walk through Multnomah Falls to showcase the region’s deep ties to nature and the history of the Pacific Northwest landscape.    On Saturday, student-athletes will visit the Oregon Historical Society and have the chance to learn about the Japanese American West Coast experience and hear firsthand from a member of the Oregon Black Pioneers. Through discussions centered on resilience, community, and historical impact, participants will gain a deeper appreciation for the individuals and stories that have shaped the Pacific Northwest.    The group will then travel to the Grand Ronde Reservation for a Veterans Powwow, which will provide an opportunity to engage with living cultural traditions and better understand the history, values and contributions of the Native American communities across the region.   The evening will conclude with a dinner at Cooper Mountain Vineyard, where student-athletes will have a hands-on discussion about the agricultural history of the region and the grape-growing operation.   The Big Life series is an immersive educational experience started in 2022 that focuses on engaging, educating, and empowering Big Ten student-athletes, coaches, and administrators. With trips to Selma, Alabama; Mount Vernon, Iowa; and Portland, Oregon attendees learn about the historical and cultural significance of the region. Since its inception, over 500 students-athletes have participated in these programs. Big Life Series Heads to the Pacific Northwest

<div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, Ill. – The University of Washington are champions of the inaugural Allstate Big Ten Women’s Championship Series, the conference announced Wednesday. The Huskies (113.2 points) earned the title over runners-up UCLA (112), with Michigan (105.6), USC (104.4) and Ohio State (100.8) rounding out the final Top-5 of the year-long competition.Across the 2025-26 campaign, Washington excelled in numerous women’s sports including soccer, where they captured both the Big Ten regular-season and tournament titles, and rowing, at which they won six of seven grand finals to repeat as conference champions. The Huskies also piled up points with Top-4 finishes at the Big Ten cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field championship meets, headlined by sisters Amanda and Hana Moll who finished No. 1 and No. 2 in pole vault at the NCAA Championships this year.“Winning is in the DNA of Washington. Having success across the board is something that’s critically important to us,” said Washington Athletic Director Pat Chun. “We take an extraordinary amount of pride in winning this Allstate Women’s Championship award, and being the inaugural winners, especially because the Big Ten conference is so difficult across the board in all sports. This is a league that historically has prioritized women’s sports and is at the current peak of women’s college sports, and for us to be able to win this, it’s really hard to articulate but we take an immense amount of pride in winning this. All of our teams will celebrate this, the way our department is wired this is really a statement about everybody at UW.”UCLA finished just 1.2 points off the Championship Series-winning total, propelled by Big Ten basketball regular-season and tournament crowns on their way to the NCAA championship, and capturing both conference titles in gymnastics. <div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, ILL. - The Big Ten Conference announced the 2026 Big Ten Women’s Outdoor Track and Field postseason individual award recipients on Wednesday, as selected by the conference’s head coaches. The NCAA championship meet was held last weekend at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Oregon’s Aaliyah McCormick won Women’s Track Athlete of the Year, while Washington's Amanda Moll was selected as Field Athlete of the Year and Illinois’ JaiCieonna Gero-Holt was tabbed Freshman of the Year.    McCormick won the NCAA title in the 100m Hurdles event with a time of 12.58 seconds. It marks the second year in a row that she won the event. She becomes the first Duck to win the award. The senior also claimed the 60 meter hurdles title at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships this season.     Working on getting back to full form this season after an injury, Moll found her stride at the NCAA Championships by winning the pole vault event with a new NCAA-record of 4.84m. She becomes the second Husky in a row to win the award, after her twin sister Hana did so after winning the 2025 outdoor pole vault title.     Gero-Holt finished third in the heptathlon at the NCAAs with a score of 6010, showing an all-around prowess. She earned first place in both the heptathlon shot put and high jump and also set a season’s best in the 800m. She becomes the second Illini in a row to win the award, as Melissa Wullschleger, who is also a multi-event athlete, claimed the award in 2025.    Earlier this month, <a href="https://bigten.org/wotf/article/60049/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">

 </a>  EUGENE, Ore. – As the sun set over Hayward for the final time of the 2026 NCAA outdoor track & field season, five women’s Big Ten teams placed in the top 10 and three additional individual champions were crowned. The five Big Ten teams are the most to ever place in a top 10, surpassing last year's total of four.   Oregon was well-represented on its home turf, scoring 36 points to earn fourth place. USC placed fifth, earning 32 points with strong performances in sprints and throws. Washington (7th, 28 points), Illinois (t-8th, 27 points) and Nebraska (t-8th, 27 points) rounded out the top ten for the conference.   Trailing after Friday's first four heptathlon events, Washington’s Sofia Cosculluela came from behind to earn the crown. She started off Saturday afternoon by winning the long jump event with a mark of 6.52m (21-4 ¾), which propelled her into first place the rest of the way.

 After setting the school record time of 41.96 on Thursday in preliminaries, USC's 4x100m relay team of Dajaz DeFrand, Mia Bradhe-Pedersen, Madison Whyte, and Brianna Selby claimed the title by beating Thursday's time with another new school record time and season's best of 41.58. It marks the second year in a row the Trojans have won the title.   Oregon’s Aaliyah McCormick became the third Duck to win an NCAA title this weekend, as she claimed the 100m Hurdles event. The Big Ten went 1-2-3, as UCLA’s Celeste Polzonetti and Ohio State’s Janela Spencer claimed second and third place in the event, respectively.

 After yesterday’s win in the men’s wheelchair 100m, the Big Ten swept the para athletics events, as Illinois’ Hannah Dederick raced to a win with a season’s best 16.55 in the women’s wheelchair 100m.  </a>  EUGENE, Ore. – Big Ten schools continued the momentum on day two of the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Two Big Ten student-athletes earned individual event titles, and 13 student-athletes and three relay teams qualified for finals races on Saturday evening.  Nebraska’s Axelina Johansson completed her storied college career by winning the women’s shot put title with a meet record throw of 19.92m, and it marks the fourth NCAA title for the 2024 Paris Olympian (2023 Outdoor, 2025 Indoor, 2026 Indoor).

 Like clockwork, Washington’s Amanda Moll claimed the women’s pole vault title with a new collegiate record of 4.84m. Her twin sister Hana, who set the previous record at the Big Ten Championships in Lincoln this May, finished second this time around. The Moll twins have become a staple in the event, as the two have combined for the last four Indoor and Outdoor Big Ten women’s pole vault titles, and five out of the last six NCAA titles.  With the twins' efforts, Washington holds the lead after day one with 18 points. 250 Big Ten Student-Athletes Headed to NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships 

<div class="payload-richtext">ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced the 2026 Big Ten Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship award winners on Wednesday, as selected by the Conference’s head coaches. The championship meet was held last weekend at Nebraska Outdoor Track in Lincoln, Neb.  USC's Madison Whyte earned Women’s Track Athlete of the Championships honors, while Washington's Hana Moll was selected as Field Athlete of the Championships and Ducks’ head coach Jerry Schumacher was named Big Ten Coach of the Year for the first time in his career.Whyte dominated the sprints portion of the Championships for the Trojans, as she won the 200m and 400m individually, and was a part of the USC 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams that finished first. The Trojans’ 4x400m relay time of 3:28.52 is a new meet record and season best. Washington’s Moll, who has won three NCAA pole vaulting championships, surpassed her own limits once again at the Big Ten Championships. She cleared a mark of 4.83m (15-10) on her first attempt at that height, which is both a meet record and a new NCAA record.  Schumacher claimed his first outdoor Coach of the Year honors after leading Oregon to its first Big Ten Outdoor Women’s championship. He also won back-to-back indoor Coach of the Year awards. Schumacher has won five out of six of the championships between women’s Cross Country, Indoor, and Outdoor Track and Field since the Ducks joined the Conference in 2024.  The Big Ten Conference office recognizes one student-athlete from each team as Sportsmanship Award Honorees. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the student-athletes must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.  </a>  LINCOLN, Neb. – Oregon won the Women’s Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday. This is head coach Jerry Schumacher’s first women’s Big Ten Outdoor championship with the Ducks.  With the win, Oregon becomes the first team to sweep the Big Ten men’s and women’s cross country, indoor and outdoor championships since Wisconsin did so in 1996-97. Illinois was this year’s runner-up with 92 points, while USC finished third with 90 points. Washington (88 points) and Nebraska (81 points) rounded out the top five.  Oregon took home five individual Big Ten Outdoor titles, as it won the triple jump, discus throw, 1500m, 100m hurdles and the 5,000m. In the triple jump, sophomore Sharifa Davronova set a meet record on her first attempt with a 14.13m (46-4 ¼) jump. Maria Josee Bovele Linaka followed that up with a win in discus, as her personal best mark of 59.01m (193-7) earned her first. In the running events, Juliet Cherubet claimed the 1500m with a time of 4:16.53 while Aaliyah McCormick won the 100m hurdles with a time of 12.43. Dalia Frias helped clinch the team title for the Ducks by running a winning time of 16:58.74.  In addition to Davronova’s record, five other meet records were broken this weekend.  On Friday, Hana Moll beat her own pole vault NCAA record with a mark of 4.83m (15-10). On Saturday, Nebraska’s Axelina Johansson beat the field by almost two meters with a meet record shot put throw of 19.97m (65-6 ¼) and UCLA’s Valentina Fakrogha earned the Bruins’ first conference record with a high jump height of 1.89m (6-2 ¼). Sunday concluded with both USC relay teams setting records, as the 4x100m team ran a 42.85, while the 4x400m won the event with a 3:28.53. The Big Ten Track Athlete of the Championships, Field Athlete of the Championships, Coach of the Year and Sportsmanship Award honorees will be announced on Wednesday (May 22).  </a>  LINCOLN, Neb. –  After an additional nine chances for points between men’s and women’s competitions, Oregon men still lead the field with 55 points. Minnesota (41 points) and USC (30 points) each had solid days of competition to stay within range for the final day. On the women’s side, Illinois jumped out to the lead with 73 points. Washington earned six more points to stay in second place with 66 total, followed by Minnesota with 48 points. Four individual champions were crowned on the men’s side in the decathlon, discus, long jump and 3,000m steeplechase — while five individual champions were determined on the women’s side in the heptathlon, shot put, high jump, long jump and 3,000m steeplechase.  In the women’s long jump, Rutgers’ Celine Brown claimed gold with a mark of 6.48m (21-3 ¼). She became the first Scarlet Knight to win a Big Ten title since Chloe Timberg won pole vault in 2024.  UCLA’s Valentina Fakrogha claimed the women’s high jump title with a meet record jump of 1.89m (6-2 ¼). Illinois added 18 points to its total in the event, as Rose Yeboah (2nd), Siun Quinn (3rd) and Emma Haeggblom (5th) all earned podium finishes.     Nebraska’s Axelina Johansson won the women’s shot put title, which became her sixth Big Ten title as a Husker. Her mark of 19.97m (65-6 ¼) was a meet record, Big Ten overall record and a Swedish national record.  Both the heptathlon and decathlon, which began on Friday morning and concluded Saturday evening with victories by Illinois in both. JaiCieonna Gero-Holt scored first in high jump and shot put to claim the heptathlon. Luuk Pelkmans tallied a winning score of 8004 with first place finishes in shot put and the 1500m.     Minnesota’s Charles Godfred, who won the men’s long jump title in 2025, repeated his success with a winning jump of 7.99m (26-2 ¾).  Michigan (second, sixth) and Rutgers (third, seventh) each had two podium finishers as well.    USC went 1-2 in men’s discus, as Racquil Broderick led the way for the Trojans with a throw of 62.80m (206-0). His freshman teammate Mico Lampien recorded a personal best 59.81m (196-2).     To conclude the evening’s running events, both the men’s and women’s 3,000m steeplechase took place. Michigan State’s Katelyn Stewart-Barnett cruised to a victory, as her time of 9:44.32 was a season best and beat the next-best runner by over 13 seconds.  </a>  LINCOLN, Neb. – The 2026 Big Ten Championships, hosted by the University of Nebraska, began Friday at the Nebraska Outdoor Track, a facility that opened for competition this season.  At the end of day one, Washington women’s (60 points) and Oregon men’s (38 points) each claimed an early lead. Minnesota had a successful day and finds itself in second on both women’s (34 points) and men’s (16 points).  Three individual champions were crowned on the men’s side in the hammer throw, javelin, and the 10,000m— while four individual champions were determined on the women’s side in hammer throw, pole vault, javelin and 10,000m.  The day kicked off with the women’s hammer throw, where Minnesota’s Anthonett Nabwe won the title for the second year in a row with a mark of 69.22 (227-1). Two other Gophers joined her on the podium, as Hadley Streit earned third place, and Ella Pavlovich claimed fifth for a total of 20 points.  Angelos Mantzouranis of Minnesota became the sixth straight Golden Gopher to win the event at the Championships with a season best throw of 75.98m (249-3). Iowa’s Ryan Johnson, who won the Indoor title this season, claimed second. In the women’s pole vault, Hana Moll became a record-setter once again with a new meet record, NCAA record, and personal best mark of 4.83m (15-10). Her sister, Amanda, claimed silver with a season’s best 4.63m (15-8 ¼). Between Hana and Amanda Moll, the two have claimed every pole vault title in both indoors and outdoors since Washington joined the Big Ten in 2024.  Washington also captured the women’s javelin title as junior Ashley Schroeder recorded a personal-best of 54.72m (179-6) on her fourth attempt. On the men’s side, Nebraska’s Keyshawn Strachan recorded a new meet record of 79.36m (260-4) to claim the title in front of Husker faithful. Oregon also recorded 18 team points in the men’s javelin with a second, third and fifth place finish.  After a weather delay, the night concluded with the men’s and women’s 10,000m. In the women’s 10,000m, Washington added to its lead with 18 total points, led by a title performance from Chloe Thomas with a time of 32:59.51, the only sub-33-minute mark in the field. Oregon’s Luke Tewalt earned first place and was one of three finishers on the podium for the Ducks, adding on to its first day lead.     Team Standings Men’s After Three Events   1.
