Ohio State Captures 2022 Big Ten Rowing Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Ohio State won the 2022 Big Ten Conference Rowing Championship Sunday, claiming first place in four races and finishing second in the other three events at Eagle Creek Park and the Indianapolis Rowing Center in Indianapolis, Ind. The Buckeyes tallied 184 points to edge past two-time defending Big Ten Champion Michigan and give OSU its conference-record 10th Big Ten title.
Sunday’s regatta came down to the final race, the First Varsity Eight (1V8), with Ohio State entering the event leading Michigan by one point in the team standings. The Buckeyes and Wolverines raced bow to bow for nearly the length of the 2,000-meter course before Ohio State prevailed in a photo finish by less than 0.6 seconds, clocking in a time of 6:13.883, followed by Michigan in 6:14.446.
The Buckeyes also picked up wins in the First Varsity Four (1V4) in 7:01.378, the Second Varsity Four (2V4) in 7:05.968 and the First Novice Eight (1N8) in 6:39.098. Michigan earned victories in the Second Varsity Eight (2V8) in 6:23.917 and the Third Varsity Four (3V4) in 7:17.532, while Rutgers won its first-ever Big Ten gold medal, capturing the Second Novice Eight (2N8) in an even closer photo finish than the 1V8 final, covering the course in 6:55.477 to nip Ohio State (6:55.779).
The Big Ten Network will debut linear coverage of the 2022 Big Ten Rowing Championships at 11 a.m. (ET) next Saturday (May 21), with coverage also available on the FOX Sports app.
With Sunday’s win, Ohio State earns the conference’s automatic berth to the 2022 NCAA Championships, which will take place May 27-29 at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla. The full field for this year’s NCAA Championships will be announced at 5 p.m. (ET) Tuesday on NCAA.com.
