Big Ten Announces Rowing Individual Award Winners

The Big Ten Conference announced Wednesday its 2021 rowing individual award winners, as chosen by the conference coaches. Michigan’s Annika Hoffmann was named Big Ten Athlete of the Year, while Rutgers’ Hannah Heideveld received Freshmen of the Year laurels. Michigan head coach Mark Rothstein earned Coach of the Year honors.

Hoffmann’s accolade marks the eighth time a Wolverine has claimed the award and the third time in as many seasons following Kendall Brewer in 2018 and Caroline Hendershot in 2019. The Freshman of the Year honor for Heideveld marks the first individual rowing accolade for Rutgers since the school joined the Big Ten in 2014-15.

Rothstein takes home Big Ten Coach of the Year laurels for the sixth time overall and the second time in as many seasons. He guided the Wolverines to their seventh Big Ten Championship and second in a row last weekend as Michigan recorded the second-highest team score in Big Ten Championships history.

All-Big Ten teams and Sportsmanship Award honorees were announced on May 16 and can be found here.
