View Complete List of Selections and Seeds

ROSEMONT, Il.l –
Four Big Ten teams have been selected to participate in the 2023 NCAA Rowing Championship, it was announced Tuesday. Michigan earned the conference’s automatic qualification after winning the Big Ten Championship on Sunday, while Indiana, Ohio State and Rutgers were at-large selections for the 22-team regatta, which takes place May 26-28 at the Camden County Boathouse in Pennsauken, N.J. and will be covered live on NCAA.com.

The Big Ten’s four bids mark the most since five teams competed in the 2019 NCAA Championship and are tied with the Ivy League and PAC-12 for the most of any conference to compete at this year’s event.

Teams participating in the NCAA Championship are required to field two boats of eight rowers (I Eights and II Eights) and one boat of four rowers (Fours), with all 22 schools seeded in each of those three races.

Michigan will make its 15th consecutive NCAA Championship and 24th overall after capturing its eighth Big Ten title. The Wolverines have finished in the top five in 11 of their previous 21 appearances, including three of the past five seasons, with a school-best runner-up finish in both 2001 and 2012. Michigan is seeded No. 10 in the I Eights, No. 13 in the II Eights and No. 11 in the Fours entering this year’s NCAA regatta.

Indiana returns to the NCAA Championship for the first time since 2019 and makes its seventh championship regatta appearance after finishing third at last week’s Big Ten Championship. Looking for the program’s first top 10 finish, the Hoosiers enter the championship regatta ranked No. 13 in the I Eights, No. 17 in the II Eights, and No. 17 in the Fours.

Ohio State will be making its 23rd consecutive NCAA Championship appearance, having placed in the top 10 in 21 of its 22 prior trips to the national event. The Buckeyes, who narrowly finished second in the Big Ten Championship on Sunday, have earned three NCAA championships (2013, 2014, 2015) and placed second in 2016. OSU is the No. 14 seed in the I Eights, No. 8 in the II Eights and No. 12 in the Fours at this year’s NCAA finals.

Rutgers collected its fourth consecutive bid to the NCAA Championships and the fifth in program history. After finishing fourth at last weekend’s Big Ten Championships and are looking to build off their 13th-place showing at last year’s NCAA Championships. This season, RU has been seeded No. 17 in the I Eights, No. 15 in the II Eights and No. 16 in the Fours for the NCAA competition.

Since the Big Ten first sponsored rowing as a conference sport in 2000, it was won three team NCAA titles (OSU’s crowns from 2013-15). In addition, Big Ten crews have won 10 individual NCAA championships since 2000 — Ohio State has seven of those titles, with three in the I Eights (2014-16), two in the II Eights (2013-14) and two in the Fours (2012-13). The other conference individual boat NCAA trophies came in the II Eights, with Michigan winning twice (2001 and 2012) and Minnesota once (2007).
