Penn State, Maryland Win Weekly Women’s Cross Country Awards

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Women’s Cross Country weekly award winners for the week of Sept. 10-17, 2025.  

Athlete of the Week  
Florence Caron, Penn State 
Graduate Student – La Malbaie, Quebec, Canada– Laval High School – Major: Linguistics 

• Ran to a first-place finish with a time of 19:54.7 at the Spiked Shoe Invitational 
• Her time was a full 24 seconds faster than the second-place runner 
• Caron paced the #15 Nittany Lions to a first-place team finish that included four of the top five finishers 
• Last Penn State Athlete of the Week: Florence Caron (Oct. 23, 2024) 

 
Freshman of the Week 
Katie Dutko, Maryland 
Freshman – Rockville, Md. – Walter Johnson High School – Major: Kinesiology 

• In her second collegiate race, place 24^th out of 113 total runners at the Spiked Shoe Invitational 
• Her 6k time of 21:42.2 ranks second overall among Big Ten freshman 
• Dutko’s second Freshman of the Week award this season. Last: Sept. 3, 2025
