Maryland, Iowa Earn Weekly Women’s Cross Country Awards
Terps’ Coats and Hawkeyes’ Magallan claim weekly awards
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference has announced its Women’s Cross Country weekly award winner for the week of Oct. 1- Oct. 8, 2025.
Athlete of the Week
Rose Coats, Maryland
Junior – Brooklyn, N.Y. – Brooklyn Prospect Charter – Major: Chemical Engineering
- Coats had the fastest 6K time of any Big Ten runner over the weekend as she took fourth overall (among 335 runners) in 19:45.4 at the Paul Short Invitational on Friday
- Holds the second fastest time in the Big Ten for a 6K course after she broke the Maryland program record for the third time in her career
- Lowered her personal-best mark by nearly eight seconds as well

Freshman of the Week
Ella Magallan, Iowa
Freshman – Burleson, Texas – Burleson Centennial High School – Major: Journalism and Mass Communication
- Placed 114th overall at the Joe Piane Invitational and top five for the Hawkeyes
- Ran a time of 17:43.9 in her first collegiate 5k
- This marks Magallan's second Freshman of the Week Award this season. Last: Sept. 10, 2025
