Fighting Illini Win 2024 Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships

The Illinois Women’s Indoor Track & Field team won the 2024 Big Ten Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. This is head coach Petros Kyrpianou’s first indoor championship with the Fighting Illini, after taking over as Director of Track and Field and Cross Country in 2022.

Penn State was this year’s runner-up with 87 points, while Iowa finished third with 73 points. Minnesota (72 points) and Michigan (71 points) rounded out the top five.

The Illini took home three individual Big Ten titles, as Bara Sajdokova won the high jump with a mark of 1.89 meters, tying the indoor championship record. Daraja Sopova won the triple jump (13.39m), while Jessica McDowell rounded out the weekend with a win in the 200 meters (23.32).

The Big Ten Track Athlete of the Championships, Field Athlete of the Championships, Coach of the Year and Sportsmanship Award honorees will be announced on Tuesday (Feb. 27). The Big Ten Track Athlete of the Year, Field Athlete of the Year and Freshman of the Year will be announced following the NCAA Indoor Championships.
